As a Ps3 owner myself the very last thing you want to see when you go to turn your PS3 on for a gaming session is the PS3 blinking yellow light. For those of you who don't know what this means it basically means that you console is broken due to it overheating at some stage. It is thought that when the console overheats through inadequate ventilation or overuse then the soldering that attaches to the chip cracks and loses contact which brings on the blinking light.
So to avoid the Ps3 blinking yellow light you want to make sure that you allow adequate ventilation around your console so that it can remain cool. Another good idea is to not use it for long gaming sessions. Give it a break every 4-5 hours so that all the components can cool down adequately. This will help in the long run.
Soldering Accessories
One tip I can give you is to try and pull out your hard drive if you have the error light and then replace it. Sometimes the hard drive can become loose which means that you will get the flashing yellow light also if it is not seated properly. However to remove the hard drive you will need to open your console which means you will void any warranty that you have. If however you don't have any warranty left then there is no worry in giving this a try before you get it fixed.
If you warranty is still valid and you have the blinking light problem then just send it back to Sony and they will refurbish it for your. The only downside to this is that it can sometimes take up to 6 weeks to get it repaired. If your warranty is expired then you will be looking at 0 for Sony to repair it for you which is a lot of money.
Another option is to fix the problem yourself. There are a few guides on the internet which will show you how to do this and it can be done in as little as an hour.
