How to Make a Modded Xbox 360 Controller

The Xbox 360 is already an amazing package in itself. However, with games like Call of Duty 5, Modern Warfare, and Modern Warfare 2, more and more people find reasons to modify the said game console, or its accessories. One such modification is a response to create a rapid fire modded Xbox 360 controller. Here are the steps on how to modify your original controller to a rapid fire controller.

Soldering Accessories

Step 1. Unscrewing the controller

Soldering Accessories

Before you start taking your controller apart, take a close look at the controller first and try to remember which parts go where because you will eventually have to put everything back again. Start by unscrewing all the visible screws at the back. After this, before you tug on the case, remove the batteries to reveal the hidden screws. Remove these as well.

Step 2. Preparing the Case

With the controller facing down, slowly and carefully separate the front half of the casing from the circuit board. A hole in the case will eventually need to be made. Remember this before putting things back.

Step 3. Placing The Rapid Fire Button

While other methods of modifying the controller do not involve installation of a new button, this particular guide does. Not only does this make it easier to adjust the rate of rapid fire, it minimizes tampering with other parts of the circuit board, thereby minimizing the risk of damaging your modded Xbox 360 controller.

Remember, kits for the rapid fire controller can be bought easily. It is the button from this kit that will be placed through the hole in the casing, so place it gently before the circuit board is returned. You may have to snip out a few flaps to make way for the wires of the kit. This can be done with either a cutter or a pair of scissors.

Step 4. Soldering

Assuming that you know how to properly utilize a soldering iron, attach the red wire to the leftmost pin of a 4-pin horizontal series, while the blue wire solders to the rightmost pin of the same series. The black (or green in some cases) wire attaches to the middle of the three vertical series to the right of the switch.

Soldering is the most crucial step to making the modded Xbox 360 controller. This is because mistakes made during this stage can permanently damage your controller.

Step 5. Putting everything back

Carefully taking note of the wires, try to close the circuit board and the casing. This may be a little tricky because the new wires will get in the way of things. Find a way for these wires to occupy the empty spaces instead of sticking out. You may hold the modded Xbox 360 controller facedown so that the buttons don't fall and maneuvering the wires are a little easier. Put the casings together but don't return the screws yet.
At this point you need to check if the rapid fire buttons work. If they don't, you may need to restart both your console and the now modded Xbox 360 controller. This should solve the problem. If it doesn't then you may need to go through the steps again to double check.
